Tour Description
A unique and comprehensive view of the Hungarian capital
Budapest is a unique city with its own identity that sets it apart from other cities like Berlin, Vienna, or Paris. If you’re interested in exploring Budapest and its fascinating history, our free tour is the perfect opportunity for you.
While two hours can’t cover all of Budapest’s rich history, our tour will take you through the city’s most significant sites and events, revealing the true stories behind them. We will help you understand why Budapest has earned the title of “the Pearl of the Danube” and why it is one of the most fascinating capitals in Europe, awakening your curiosity with every step.
Explore the history of Budapest
We can’t concentrate all the fascinating history of Budapest into just two hours, but we can help you better understand it through a quick journey through the most significant moments of its past. Along the way, we will explore the city’s main historical landmarks, from its foundation in the Middle Ages to the construction of the majestic Hungarian Parliament. From this starting point, we will guide you to discover Budapest’s importance in Central European history.
We will recall the grandeur of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, a period that marked a before and after in the city, changing its appearance entirely. Through monuments like the imposing Hungarian Parliament, St. Stephen’s Basilica, and Liberty Square, you will see how Budapest transformed into one of the most fascinating capitals in Europe. We will also delve into the dramatic events of World War II and Hungary’s role as an ally of Hitler, visiting the Memorial to the Victims of the German Occupation. Furthermore, we will talk about the 1956 Revolution, the communist period, and we will see the Soviet Memorial, where you’ll understand how the city became embroiled in these crucial historical events.
Enjoy Budapest’s must-see landmarks
During the free tour, you will have a professional guide who will take you to the Queen Elizabeth Statue in Liberty Square, where you will discover the lesser-known side of Austria’s most famous and cinematic empress, whose life was deeply linked to Budapest’s history. One of the most iconic experiences will be the famous Chain Bridge. This iconic bridge connects the two parts of the city, Buda and Pest, and remains one of Budapest’s most representative symbols. We’ll share tips on how to cross between the two sides using public transport.
You’ll enjoy stunning views of the Danube River and, from the opposite bank, admire Buda Castle and the old town.
